Williamston grad earns GLIAC soccer honor

Grace Kraft hasn’t wasted any time making an impact for the Ferris State women’s soccer team.

The freshman goalkeeper has had success in net when she has been called upon by the Bulldogs this fall . And she added to that by stringing together a pair of strong recent performances to earn recognition as the GLIAC defensive player of the week.

Kraft (Williamston) didn’t allow a goal in 200 minutes of play and registered 15 saves last week to help Ferris earn a win a tie. She had eight saves in a scoreless double-overtime tie against then unbeaten Ashland before stopping seven shots in a 1-0 win over Tiffin.

Kraft has appeared in six games and made five starts for the Bulldogs this fall. She has registered four shutouts and has a 0.66 goals against average while helping Ferris State to a 3-1-2 mark during her appearances.

OLIVET COLLEGE: Freshman Tyler Mojet (Waverly) had his first career touchdown while helping the Comets to a 15-13 MIAA win over Hope on Saturday. Mojet had a rushing touchdown in the opening quarter and had 37 rushing yards in the Olivet win.

MICHIGAN TECH: Freshman linebacker Marvin Wright (Everett) continues to be among the tackle leaders for the Huskies and registered 10 stops and had a pair of pass breakups in Saturday’s 17-16 loss to Saginaw Valley. He has 41 tackles in five games.

ADRIAN COLLEGE: Sophomore linebacker Angus Arthur (St. Johns) had a career-high 12 tackles and added an interception in the Bulldogs’ win over Albion on Saturday. He leads Adrian with 24 tackles this fall.

MICHIGAN: Junior Aaron Baumgarten (Williamston) added to his strong start this fall for the Wolverine cross country team by being U-M’s top finisher at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 24. Baumgarten finished third overall with a time of 25:10.5 at the 8,000-meter course. His performance helped Michigan finish fourth as a team. Baumgarten also won the 5,000-meter Michigan Open on Sept. 2 to start his season.

NORTHERN MICHIGAN: Freshman defender Brandon DeSmyter (DeWitt) has made an impact for the first-year Wildcat soccer program this fall. DeSmyter has been a starter this fall and recently helped Northern Michigan to a three-game winning streak.
