Lucas Barner delivered for the Siena Heights football team last weekend in what was his second appearance of the season.
The sophomore quarterback threw a pair of second half touchdowns, including one with 13 seconds remaining, to help the Saints upset No. 17-ranked Saint Xavier (Ill.).
Barner’s touchdown pass with 13 seconds remaining tied the game and set up the game-winning extra point in the Saints’ 30-29 victory.
Barner (Everett) completed 16 of 25 passes for 193 yards to help Siena Heights improve to 3-1. He has completed 30 of 48 passes for 428 yards and four touchdowns and no interceptions in two games.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN: Senior quarterback Cooper Rush (Lansing Catholic) had his third career 400-yard passing game in the Chippewas’ 49-35 loss at Virginia on Saturday. He completed 24 of 45 passes for 402 yards. The performance moved Rush past former Marshall star and NFL quarterback Chad Pennington and into ninth place on the Mid-American Conference all-time yardage list with 10,713 yards.
VIRGINIA: Freshman midfielder Zoe Morse (East Lansing) had a goal for the Cavalier women’s soccer team in a loss to Miami last week. Morse has two goals this fall while contributing to an 8-2-1 start for Virginia, which is ranked No. 7 in the nation.
OAKLAND UNIVERSITY: Senior Jacob Johnson (Lansing Catholic) helped the Oakland men’s golf team finish as the runner-up at the NKU Fall Collegiate on Monday. Johnson finished tied for 12th with a three-round score of 219.
HILLSDALE COLLEGE: Joe Reverman (Grand Ledge) ran for 133 yards and a touchdown and averaged 38.3 yards on three kickoff returns in the Chargers’ 51-24 win over Hillsdale on Saturday.
SAGINAW VALLEY: Emily Barker (Lakewood) was the top performer for the Cardinal women’s golf team at an invitational at Grand Valley State. The freshman shot a 167 and finished 46th overall. Barker has been the low scorer for Saginaw Valley in two of its three tournaments this fall.
CALVIN COLLEGE: Senior defenders Jay Noyola (Lansing Christian) and David Waterson (DeWitt) have been key contributors for the Knight men’s soccer team, which is 7-1 and 4-0 in the MIAA. They have started on defense while helping Calvin allow just four goals in eight games. Noyola and Waterson each have a goal this season.
KALAMAZOO COLLEGE: Senior Brock Rucinski (Lansing Catholic) had an 11-yard touchdown run in the Hornets’ 55-19 win over Rockford on Saturday.
